About Smith Lake
Spanning 21,000 acres across portions of three counties in North Alabama, Lewis Smith Lake has ascended to one of the South’s most coveted waterfront communities with its clean water and ample opportunities for fishing and recreation.
Created in 1971 by Alabama Power Co., as a result of the utility’s creation of Lewis Smith Dam to produce hydroelectric power and improve river traffic conditions along the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River, Smith Lake offers a beautiful setting surrounded by the William Bankhead National Forest. With a maximum depth of 264 feet, it is the deepest Lake in Alabama and covers portions of Cullman, Walker and Winston counties.
Touted for its environmental quality, Smith Lake is ranked as the cleanest Lake in Alabama, and often placing second nationally behind Lake Tahoe in Sierra Nevada.
Investors in Alabama lakefront properties are discovering one of the region’s most breathtaking settings at Smith Lake, which boasts varying terrain for building their dream homes. The community features a mix of vacation homes and permanent residences that are rising in value with the surging demand from buyers. Search Smith Lake Homes for Sale.
Smith Lake also has a growing business community to serve a variety of needs, but only a short drive away is the city of Cullman, settled in 1873 by German immigrants. The city offers plenty of shopping opportunities and a vibrant downtown full of restaurants, specialty shops, acclaimed festivals and wide sidewalks for strolling among the well-preserved buildings of the past.
Smith Lake homes have steadily increased in value over the last five years, and that trend is expected to continue, positioning homeowners to enjoy significant returns on their original investments.
The limited properties remaining available has caused a spike of interest in Smith Lake real estate, which we expect to continue for many generations to come. We are seeing a lot of interest in this Alabama waterfront community from residents of other states, particularly Tennessee. During this period of growth, many artists, writers and musicians have moved to Smith Lake or regularly spend time there because of the peaceful, creative setting.
As real estate specialists in Alabama’s shoreline communities, we know the deep water of Smith Lake produces monster bass and more than 70 other species of fish. As popular as fishing are the recreational activities along the water of this sprawling Alabama treasure. Wake surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, pleasure boating and slalom courses are routine fun here for highly skilled or beginning water sports enthusiasts.
Whether you are looking for a family setting or a retirement dream home on a beautiful Alabama waterfront, Smith Lake real estate is delivering those qualities, along with upward returns on investments.
